Namasankeerthanam punyam

Ram krishna hariVaudeva hariPanduranga hari

We, Vittal Bhakth Sangh is nothing but a group of guys who dedicate their non-working hours for worshiping the almighty. From many ways of worships, we chose ‘namasankeerthana’ as our way. This is how our sadguru taught us. In kaliyuga, namasankeerthanam is the only way to attain the ‘moksha’.Our sadguru, Sri. K.Narayana Rao, lovingly called ‘Bavaji’ guided us through the forest of bhajans. Vittal bhakth sangh started with Abhang bhajans which was not that much prevailing in south india as it was one of the traditional worshiping method in maharashtra. After a few years, we got introduced with Pracheena dakshina sampradaya bhajan. Sadguru Bhagavathathilakam A.V.Ramaswamy Iyangar(iyangar mama) showed us the way to sampradaya bhajan. We were awarded with a great guru of ours, Sri. V.Shankar Bhagavathar. Under his discipleship, we flourished ourselves in the ocean of namasankeerthanam and indian classical music.

Vittal Bhakth Sangh basically is not only a bhajan sangh. Rather than that, our aim is Namaprachara i.e, to advocate and spread the word of mouth for NAMASANKKERTHANA. Hence we do as much as things for Namaprachara through all available media available in today’s life. Vittal Bhakth Sangh has produced book and CDs of bhajans, Conducted namasankeerthana utsavas etc.

Abhangs are rhymes written on bhagvan krishna or Sri Panduranga by great devotees like, tukaram and njaneswar. Traditionally these songs are sung as a group at once, accompanied with Ektar, a single stringed instrument and Dhindi, a handy cymbal. But in south india, abhangs are accompanied by Harmonium, Mridangam/Dolki, Dhindis and sometimes even with violin. Another difference is in traditional method, there is little importance for the raga-tala musical connissuers. Bhava or in other words, the Devotion(bhakthi) is the essense. Even it is the same in south indian version too, Musical factors are taken into a bigger account.

This time, I take my pleasure to remember our patrons, Sri. TukaramGanapathi anna of Kadaiyanallur(tinnevelli) and Brahmasri VittaldasJayakrishna Deekshithar, Kumbhakonam who was a desciple of ‘Guruji’,Mahatma Haridas Giri.

In further editions, I’ll put more stuffs on Namasankeerthana and VBS.

Radhe krishna…
